408 Visa – Pandemic Event Stream Closes on 1 February 2024

From 1 February 2024, the visa will cease to accept new applicants, ensuring stability within the visa system now that the conditions necessitating the visa’s operation have dissipated.

Effective September 2, 2023, the Pandemic Event visa will exclusively consider applications from existing holders of such visas. Other visa holders will no longer be eligible for the Pandemic Event visa, a transitional measure aimed at upholding visa integrity.

Valid Pandemic Event visa holders will maintain lawful status until their visa expiration dates. The phased closure of the visa underscores our commitment to aligning the visa system with the needs of the Australian populace.

Currently, new applications will be granted a six-month visa, accompanied by a Visa Application Charge of $405 AUD. These adjustments aim to ensure that the visa is utilized solely by individuals with genuine intentions to contribute to Australia.

Pandemic Event visa holders seeking alternative visa options must meet the respective criteria. Those unable to pursue other visa avenues are encouraged to depart Australia upon visa expiration.
