Benefits and Drawbacks of using Technology in Workplace

Many workplaces are using technology to help increase the efficiency in their work. Technology provide many useful benefits to the workplace. However, it also comes with its own set of drawbacks. Below, we will explore both the benefits and drawbacks of using technology in the workplace.

Benefits of using Technology in the Workplace

 Improved communication and collaboration: provide a platform for more effective communication between team members regardless of their physical location such as email, messaging app and video conferencing app.

  Remote work: with the technology enabling communication and collaboration.

Employees are able to work and collaborate with their colleague effectively.

 Increased efficiency: there are many software on the market that performs several functions that help speed up the day to day task. Moreover, technology can help in calculation task and reduce the chance of human error.

  Paperless: with less reliance on paper, the needs to store the paper will decrease which leads to less space wasted. Cloud storage also allows employee to find relevant documents with less time.

Drawbacks of using Technology in the Workplace

 Security risks: the use of technology comes with the risk of cyber attacks and other security risks.

 Inability to adapt: some employee may struggle to learn new technologies, leading to slower implementation and reducing efficiency in work.

 Reliance on technology: this can cause many underlying problems. In the case of system failures or server downtime, it can cause issue as employee no longer have access to the tools or documents they need to work.

 Increases in price: the software provider may increase price of the product which might no longer be sustainable to pay for. Which means that the company will need to move to another product. The transition will be costly due to needing

to move the data on the previous platform as well as learning and training the employee for the new software.

In conclusion, using technology in the workplace can offer many benefits. However, it is necessary to consider the drawback that comes with it.
