Changes to Australia’s Protection System

Australia is one of the countries that covers the protection and refugee visa. Recently, Australia has received several refugees, mainly from regions of conflict and war, lately from Afghanistan and Ukraine respectively.

Good news is coming as on October 5th 2023 the Australian Government announced the allocation of AUD $160 million in support to the Protection Visa Program.

Furthermore, in the last 3 years about AUD $54 million has been allocated to increase the processing of Protection visas (Subclass 866) and reduce processing times.

Approximately AUD $10 million has been allocated over the last 3 years to the AAT (Administrative Appeals Tribunal) and AUD $48 million to the FCC (Federal Circuit Court) with the aim of hearing more Protection applications at merits and judicial review.
