Closure of Pandemic Visa (408)

On 31 August 2023 the Australian Government announced that the Temporary Activity
(subclass 408) Australian Government endorsed event visa (the ‘Pandemic Event visa’)
is closing. This announcement does not change the date on which your current Pandemic
Event visa ceases.

The Pandemic Event visa is now only open to existing Pandemic Event visa holders. You
may be eligible for a further Pandemic Event visa until the visa closes to all applications on 1
February 2024.

For applications lodged on or after 2 September 2023, at time of application you must:
● have evidence of your employment or an offer of employment in Australia, and
● hold a Pandemic Event visa that will cease in 28 days or less, or
● have held a Pandemic Event visa that ceased less than 28 days ago.

You will also need to pay the visa application charge, including any additional charges that
may apply to you or family members who apply with you.

If your Pandemic Event visa expires after February 2024, you will not be eligible for a further
Pandemic Event visa. You should explore other visa options to remain in Australia or make
arrangements to depart before your visa expires.
