Final Closure of COVID – 19 Pandemic Visa – 408

Starting from February 1st, 2024, new applicants are no longer accepted for the Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408) endorsed by the Australian Government for events related to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In April 2020, the Australian Government introduced the Pandemic Event visa to allow temporary visa holders to legally remain in Australia during the border closure period. This measure also aimed to address labor shortages in critical sectors of the local economy.

With Australia’s borders now reopened and the number of temporary visa holders returning to pre-COVID-19 levels, the Pandemic Event visa is deemed unnecessary.

Closing the Pandemic Event visa is part of managing the migration system effectively. It will promote better-regulated visa pathways and normalize the movement of temporary migrants in and out of Australia.
